Taking Japanese culture to the world

“Koto Chikage”, located in Nishi-ku, Nagoya, offers a variety of hands-on workshops for visitors to Japan.
Professional artist, Rie Asai provides careful instruction in the koto and shamisen workshops offered at the Nagoya Noh Theater.
At the end of the workshop, participants can even perform on stage.
Other activities include trying on the clothing of a miko (shrine maiden), calligraphy and traditional Japanese tea ceremony, etc.

Introduction

rie asai
To date, Rie has performed at a variety of historical venues both in Japan and overseas, including the UNESCO World Heritage listed St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Austria), and Izumo Taisha, Asakusa Shrine, and Tsubaki Grand Shrine in Japan.
She continues to spread messages of prayer and peace through music.
She has also had the honor to have a prayer audience with His Holiness, Pope Francis, the 266th Pope. Rie has performed in over 15 countries, including the Cambodian Arts and Culture Festival to commemorate the 60th anniversary of ASEAN, a performance at the Vienna State Opera to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria, and a performance at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in the Vatican, highlighting her record as an international artist.
